Rating/Scoring System
IT’S NOT THAT DEEP━━━━━━ ✺ ━━━━━━During the interpretive phase of our scoring stage, various assessments are administered to mold a well-rounded representation of what an audience considers a “Final Critique”. While initial judgements gauge and potentially dilute a valuable score, it becomes quite transparent the process is not as straightforward as presumed. Scores are evaluated, with consideration to the ever-changing factors and settings an adaptation might portray. This forward/backward progression may necessitate change due to the acceptance or rejection of new material introduced. Without droning on too long, let me provide a short synopsis of my current scoring system.☺ Eating Is For The Eyes Not The Mouth ☺I rate based purely on enjoyment up to a certain point (8). Past that point (8+), it
becomes a matter of how much something resonates within me; its personal impact

Indicative as to the breadth between ratings, I restrict myself to a top ten format. Selectively attuned, I personally resonate with and seek to delve deeper in intrigue. These compacted series form the basis of what I consider to define — my own vision of perfection within the medium. Molding the metaphorical guidepost by which articulating my idiosyncratic viewpoints becomes marginally clearer.8 (Great)
Excelling in both vision and execution are close to perfection. Crossing a threshold making them superior to scores (8-) due to material presenting itself in an immaculate light. Will readily utilize notions, facts, and history presented earlier to reinforce and build a further understanding. Generally enhancing the architectural foundation of basic story building with platforms beyond the scope of typical rational a lower score may exhibit. Be it through Philosophical, interpersonal, or societal methods, these series demonstrate unique archetypes within their respective genres.7-7.5 (Good)
I genuinely enjoy every series I place in this grade scale. They’re not necessarily rewatchable but a series deserving recognition for what it attempted to accomplish or did for that matter. I find myself finishing or rebuilding the storylines structurally tailored to the worlds, all while developing new and interesting character arcs I wanted to see come to fruition. Often times my train of thought for this category is “what could have been” rather than “what was” which is the fine line I draw in the animation sand between the 7’s and up.6 (Fine)
Semi-thought provoking and enjoyable to watch but fall short of a captivating experience. The topics presented don’t feel contrived out of a necessity to produce a flawless animation, but rather present a broader subject matter to their audience. A late-night blockbuster or Redbox movie run is the beat these flicks drum too. Never attempting to display themselves as more than rudimentary and simplistic, convey a welcome escape from reality. While pleasant, I feel no fondness towards this array, as the productions left me w/ sentiments akin to “meh”.5-0 (Okay - Unwatchable)
A conglomerate of abysmal rubbish; either received well by the community for failing upwards or universally greeted with disdain. Trudging onward became analogous to watching paint dry, grass grow, or rocks erode. Potentially beginning in a positive motion, several began a downhill spiral of delusion due to lack of direction and an air of uncertainty as to what the all-encompassing purpose may be. These contenders lacked any semblance of a palpable narrative. Conceding and abandoning all possible desire to produce or foster character growth, facilitate a broader conceptualized world, entertain deep and purposeful dialogue, or develop an overarching constructive vision. It should be said, many of these shows suffered in the ladder halves resulting in an inconclusive and unsound end; ultimately becoming unwatchable.Final Monologue
While impossible to completely express the inner complexities of my thought process behind the scores, I set out to develop a rubric of sorts to help guide this ever-winding train of thought.
